Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which helps focus light onto the back of the eye (retina). This cloudiness can reduce vision and might eventually cause blindness if left untreated. Cataracts develop slowly and without pain, often affecting vision and lifestyle without immediate notice.
Symptoms of Cataracts
-
Blurry vision
-
Trouble reading in dim light
-
Increased sensitivity to glare
-
Poor night vision
Causes of Cataracts
There are several types of cataracts, but aging is the most common cause. Other risk factors include poorly controlled diabetes, excess sun exposure, smoking and previous eye injury or surgeries.

Cataracts Diagnosis and Treatment Options
When patients are examined for cataracts, the primary objective is to determine several key factors: whether there is clouding of the natural lens and how severe, whether this opacity is responsible for the patient's vision level, and if removing the cataract is likely to improve vision and overall functioning enough to justify the risks of surgery.
If cataracts are detected, patients are referred by our Optometrists to see an eye doctor (Ophthalmologist) to consult and offer cataract surgery, a safe and common procedure where the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens.
Don't wait for vision problems to impact your child's learning and development. Schedule a comprehensive eye exam today! Early intervention with an optometrist can ensure your child sees the world clearly.
